The houses on the right in the distance are the same 1880s coastguard cottages seen in the previous picture and the large cylindrical object blocking the previous view is the base of the chimney stack of Shoreham power station.
The chimney is visible for many miles along the coast and from the surrounding Downs, and the sight of it never fails to have a heartening effect as I imagine JCP in Rabelaisian mode striding across the bridge...but perhaps I'll stop there.
